Believing
in the importance of Common Arab Work in all fields, working on achieving
economic unity and activating the role of Common Arab Market, Admiral. Hatem El
Kady, chairman of the Egyptian Central Chamber of Shipping , in co-ordination
with Mr.Elie E. Zakhour, chairman of the international Chamber of Navigation in
Beirut ,Capt. Mohamed Dalabieh from the shipping agents association in Jordan,
fellows from The Yemen Chambers of Shipping in Hydaydah and in Aden,
participated together to establish an Arab Federation which comprises the
Chambers of Shipping in Arab Countries.
The establishing meeting of the federation was held in Alexandria at
Palestine Hotel on 24 July 2002 in the presence of the founding members of the
federation who represent The Egyptian Chambers of Shipping (Alexandria –
Damietta – PortSaid – Suez and Red sea) and The International Chamber of
Navigation in Beirut (Lebanon) and The Yemen Chamber of Shipping in Hydaydah ,
Chamber of shipping in Aden (Yemen) , the Shipping Agents Association in Aqaba (
the Jordan Kingdom ) and in the presence of His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Ahmed
Gowely The General secretary of the Council of Arab Economic Union , a
Representative on behalf of the Egyptian Minister of Transport and a Deputy of
the Governor of Alexandria and Representatives of the founding countries'
ambassadors of the federation and all those concerned with the activity of
maritime transport industry , the navigational companies and mass media.
In this meeting the establishment of the federation was made in the name of
the Arab Federation of Chambers of Shipping and its permanent headquarter
decided to be in Alexandria and the basic system of the federation had been
signed and the board of directors and the general secretary of the federation
had been elected.
On the 18th December 2002, the Council of Arab Economic Unity agreed to the
merging of the Arab Federation of Chambers of Shipping to work under its auspice
pursuant to resolution No. 1201 / 76D and thus became the federation No. 30
among the specialized Arab Federations working within the board of Council of
Arab Economic Unity.
